ORIGINAL CREATIVITY Successfully Hosts First Neighborhood Clean Up

More than 50 volunteers from the Detroit Police Academy and the community helped clear the 2510. Neighborhood Garden site.

Detroit, MI – ORIGINAL CREATIVITY successfully gathered more than 40 volunteers from the community and the Detroit Police Academy to clear the site for the non profit’s 2510. NEIGHBORHOOD GARDEN on May 19.

“I don’t think any of us expected the overwhelming support we received from the community,” said ORIGINAL CREATIVITY Communications Chair Michael Lewis II. “Working as a team to revive this neighborhood is crucial to sustainability and I think this clean up showed we work well together.”

The Detroit Police Academy showed its commitment to the NW Goldberg community by supplying more than 40 cadets to assist with the clean up. ORIGINAL CREATIVITY Founder and President  Daniel A. Washington said the help from the Academy is a sign of the community’s commitment to the neighborhood.

“It’s great to have organizations in the community who want to do their part to spark change,” said Washington. “It was a special treat to join those sworn to protect the community in cleaning it.”

Aside from clearing the corner lots where the garden will be housed, volunteers planted produce.

“Right now, we have bell peppers, tomatoes, parsley and lettuce,” said Jordan Yagiela. “Our hope is to begin distributing what we harvest to residents of the neighborhood in less than a month.”

ORIGINAL CREATIVITY is hoping to host another NEIGHBORHOOD GARDEN Clean Up in  July.
